You are what you think. Your thoughts create your reality. Change your thoughts, changes your reality. Can we heal our body with our mind? Let’s dive in. Your body has an incredible capacity to heal itself. There are 30 trillion cells in the human body, working tirelessly to keep us alive. It’s fascinating to understand how the body regenerates and repairs cells, tissues, organs, grows new blood vessels, bones and heals wounds. Power of our immune system keeps us safe from virus or bacteria attacks. How the body maintains an optimum microbiome, the gut flora for better health. All these are profound examples of the body’s self repairing capability.
Sometimes it doesn’t seem to work. That is when we start depending on outside resources like medicines or treatments that will aid in our healing. But there are numerous cases in history where there was no medicine that could heal, doctors conducted clinical trials on patients with one group given placebo while the other group tested for the drug. They witnessed reversals of cancer, spontaneous healing from chronic disorders who were given the placebo.
You might have heard of the placebo effect?
Those of you who are not aware of placebo have been used in clinical trials to test the effectiveness of treatments. It could be just a fake pill, or fake procedure/ surgery that one group of patients will be given and compared to another group who get the real drug.
Doctors have witnessed unexplained recovery from cancer and other chronic conditions with placebo, the fake pill. How can such miracles happen? Estimates of the placebo success rate range from a low of 15 percent to a high of 72 percent. And how does it work? It’s your belief that you will be healed with this treatment actually heals you, imagine how powerful your mind is. How powerful is the self repairing intelligence of your body. Interestingly placebo is most effective for conditions like pain management, stress-related insomnia, and cancer treatment side effects like fatigue and nausea.
Today I will be bringing together perspectives from renowned doctors , scientists, biologists, researchers who are convinced that we can activate the self repairing mechanism of our body through our thoughts. We can heal our body with our mind.
I was so happy to hear Dr. Lisa Rankin’s on youtube the other day. She is famous for her book Mind over medicine. Being a doctor, it was hard for her to accept how the placebo effect worked. Numerous cases of cancer reversals and people recovering from chronic diseases led her research to discover that our bodies have self-repair mechanisms that can be activated or disabled based on thoughts, beliefs. She speaks of how the placebo effect works the moment you believe that this drug will cure you, sends a signal to your brain that all is well, no need to panic. This calms the brain, brings down the cortisol levels which then activates the self repairing mechanism of the body. At the same time nocebo effect in patients who are in a negative mindset shows no improvement and condition deteriorates just because they do not believe that the drug will help them recover.
Currently Lissa runs Whole Health Institute training physicians and healthcare providers with a new perspective of healing & empowering patients to listen to their inner guidance which is essential for good health. Most of the time our health condition could be due to bad relationships or may be stressful workplace or something that is lacking in life which we need to find the root cause for our illness. Fix the root cause and illness will automatically go away.
How profound discovery is that, merely changing our mindset to being positive and hopeful. Trusting the body to activate its innate healing capabilities and believing that you will recover from illness will do the trick. Body natural healing gets activated only when you are in a relaxed state of mind. If you are stressed, healing is disabled.
Bruce Lipton, an American developmental biologist notable for his views on epigenetics, author of bestseller “Biology of belief” widely recognized that genes and DNA do not control our biology. Instead, they are controlled by signals from outside the cell, including energetic messages emanating from our thoughts. He explains we don’t have to feel victim of our genetic or biological limitations, we have unlimited capacity within ourselves to change and rewire our subconscious. By being consciously present in the moment we can reprogram ourselves.
Deepak Chopra, an endocrinologist and renowned pioneer in integrative medicine and personal transformation & Rudolph Tanzi, Professor of Neurology, in their book Healing Selfthe e explains the root cause of many illnesses and diseases is chronic stress and inflammation. They explain how the choices we make today, including choices such as diet and stress relief that affect our microbiomes and immune system, are crucial to lifelong health. Learning the secrets of self-healing is not only urgent but mandatory for optimum health. If you are able to be attentive to the symptoms and address them, you can save yourself from ending with life long chronic disorders such as hypertension, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and Alzheimer’s Disease, known to take years and sometimes decades to develop before the first symptoms appear.
New York Times bestseller, internationally renowned Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto Dr. Masaru Emoto discovered that crystals formed in frozen water reveal changes when specific, concentrated thoughts are directed toward them. He found that water exposed to loving words shows brilliant bright snowflake patterns. In contrast, water exposed to negative thoughts, forms incomplete, asymmetrical patterns with dull colors. Our bodies and mother earth comprises 70% water. Then you can imagine how our thoughts, words and feelings could influence molecules of water. How important it is to have thoughts that can have a positive impact on Mother earth and our personal health.
Heart coherence -The Heart Math Institute has done research to show that when we create rejuvenating emotions, such as appreciation, care, love, gratitude, and compassion, the signal from heart to brain becomes more harmonized. The stress hormones decrease, allowing the heart and brain to shift and produce the chemistry that supports stronger immune response, creating a greater heart-brain connection and coherence.
Louis Hays, renowned inspirational teacher and best seller author of You can heal your life, 50 million copies worldwide. Hays believes that the causes of “dis-ease” include stress and unhealthy thought patterns and beliefs about oneself. You can make a positive change in the body by changing the way we think, using tools such as “mirror work” and affirmations.
All these renowned scientists, doctors through their research have bridged science and spirituality. All of them advocate meditation, mindfulness, subconscious reprogramming, how to build heart and mind coherence and seek inner guidance.
